Enrollment
Update As
it has done each fall semester since opening in 1995, Lone Star College-Montgomery
welcomed a record number of students on the first day of classes. Of course,
we have to wait until the official day of record before celebrating too
loud (more on that below!), but all of the numbers are positive—extremely
positive. As of Thursday, we had 10,968 students taking at least one credit
class at LSC-Montgomery, which is 13.9 percent more than the same day
last year. More important, considering the budget implications, our contact
hour growth is 14.2 percent ahead of last fall’s number. We projected
5 percent growth in contact hours, and because much of our funding is
tied to our contact hour growth, we are well situated, indeed. We will
know more as we get closer to the official day on Friday, September 4.

10,000+
Super-Sized Celebration! Speaking
of Friday, September 4, please set aside your lunch hour for a “10,000+”
LSC-Montgomery Super-sized Celebration! From 11:30 a.m.-1:30
p.m., the LSC-Montgomery administrative team will host (and when I say
host, I mean “cook”) a hot dog & hamburger lunch in the
Commons and the covered area in front of Bldg. A. This will be for the
entire campus community, so you definitely don’t want to miss it.
In addition to hot dogs and hamburgers, we’ll have chips, soda &
water, and a special celebratory dessert for those with a sweet tooth.

Thanks
for Making it Happen! There are many factors
that impact enrollment. Certainly, we have been positively impacted by
the downturn in the economy, as more individuals see education as the
best way to move forward in their careers. We also are situated in a high-growth
region in terms of population and business relocation. However, I firmly
believe that our growth and success can be attributed to the quality of
instruction and exemplary reputation of Lone Star College-Montgomery faculty,
staff, and students. All of you have helped make this an incredibly smooth
start to the fall semester.

Parking
Status As
you know, parking is always a challenge during the first two weeks of
the semester. With the creation of a 200-space temporary overflow parking
lot next to the LSC-Montgomery Child Care Center, we are temporarily accommodating
our students, faculty, staff, and visitors. In the next few days, you
will notice a courtesy golf cart circling the temporary parking lots giving
students, faculty, and staff a lift to their building of choice. This
is not a campus safety cart. Feel free to flag down the courtesy golf
cart driver and catch a free ride. Thanks for your patience!

Did You Know?
Lori Hughes (English Professor) received her Ph.D. in
May? Congratulations, Dr. Hughes!
& Did You Know?
The founding date of Lone Star College-Montgomery (the
day of the campus dedication) was August 14, 1995. Today, we still have
33 “founders” who were hired full-time before or during the 1995-96 academic
year. Congratulations on your longevity with LSC-Montgomery!
